Walmart plans to sell the toy series of the NFT collection called Pudgy Penguins in its 2,000 stores across the United States. This move is a notable example of the retail giant venturing into the digital world and joining the NFT trend. Each Pudgy toy provides users with access to Pudgy World, a multiplayer digital social platform where they can create their own Infinite Pudgy characters, play mini-games, and interact with other users.
Walmart’s Partnership with Pudgy Penguins
Walmart will offer 26 different Pudgy toys, including Plush Buddies, Clip-on Plushes, Igloo Collectibles, and Action Figures. Among them, Blind Boxes are available, which contain surprises such as Ice Chrome and Gold Chrome collection figures, surprise Clip-On Plushes inside igloos, and more. The prices for Pudgy toys will range from $2.99 to $11.97. This pricing range aligns with Walmart’s commitment to providing quality products at affordable prices.
“As Walmart, we know our customers are looking for the latest trends and innovations to gift themselves or loved ones. Pudgy Penguins really bridges the gap for kids between our physical and digital play worlds and is in line with our everyday low price promise.”
Brittany Smith, Senior Vice President of Walmart U.S. Toys
Walmart’s statement reflects the company’s focus on customer satisfaction and its willingness to adapt to changing trends in the toy market.
Exclusive Pudgy Toys
Each Pudgy toy comes with a birth certificate that allows users to give unique attributes to their digital Infinite Pudgy characters. The toy designs incorporate IP-based features from NFT collections like Meebits and DeGods. Since all toys are tied to existing NFT IP pieces, current NFT owners will receive licensing royalties for each relevant toy sold at Walmart. This makes Pudgy toys even more appealing to collectors and NFT enthusiasts.
Moreover, Pudgy toys sold at Walmart will give users a chance to find a golden ticket, which grants access to a rare feature for their Infinite Pudgy Penguin within Pudgy World.
Collaboration between Pudgy Toys and Pudgy World
Pudgy Toys and Pudgy World were first introduced in May this year with the goal of combining physical toys with NFTs and blockchain technology. These toys are not available on the online retailer Amazon. Pudgy toys are manufactured by PMI Kids’ World, which also produces toys for games like Fortnite and Among Us.
Pudgy Penguins
Pudgy Penguins is the 19th highest-selling NFT collection of all time, according to CryptoSlam data. Launched in 2021, this Ethereum-based collection includes 8,888 NFTs featuring cartoon penguins. The community had previously claimed that the project’s founders did not fulfill their promises, alleging they did not create a book and a metaverse game for kids, which was initially pledged by entrepreneur Luca Netz when he sold the project for $2.5 million in 2022 before being removed by a community vote.
