According to reports, Google is working on a new search engine and creating brand-new search features as part of the Magi project, which intends to help customers complete transactions while integrating search adverts into the search results page.
Google vs. Bing
Google’s extensive rule over the search engine market is being challenged by Microsoft’s Bing search engine, which intends to augment its market share, while Google currently retains over 90% of the search market share.
Microsoft’s Bing search engine has really stepped up its game by integrating ChatGPT and GPT-4. As a result, it’s been able to increase its monthly page visits by 25%. This has made Bing a stronger competitor to Google, and has even prompted Google to develop its own autonomous AI-powered search engine, called the Magi project.
Google’s Move: Magi
As reported by The New York Times, Google currently has 160 engineers dedicated to working on Project Magi. This project aims to enhance Google’s search engine capabilities by incorporating new AI-based features into its platform.
The New York Times has reported that Google’s top position in the search engine market is at risk. Samsung is reportedly contemplating replacing Google with Bing as the default search engine on its mobile devices, which could lead to an estimated loss of $3 billion in annual revenue for Google. Currently, Google has a similar deal with Apple that is worth approximately $20 billion. It remains uncertain how seriously Samsung is considering the switch at this moment.
Apart from the new features being developed as part of Project Magi, Google is also planning a major overhaul of its search engine. This will include integrating fresh search functionalities, with search ads intertwined into the search results page. However, there is no clear timetable for the release of this new search technology.
Magi Launch Date
Google is set to launch its new AI-powered search tools next month, with additional features scheduled to be released in the fall. The initial launch of these features will be limited to the US market and will be made available to a maximum of one million users.
Google’s new search tools are expected to provide users with a more personalized search experience by predicting their search requirements using AI technology. It remains to be seen how these new features will be received by users and how they will compare to the enhanced capabilities of Microsoft’s Bing search engine.
Nevertheless, Google’s dedication to innovation and incessant enhancement implies that the pursuit for pre-eminence in the search engine market is far from concluded.
