zkSync, a leading zero-knowledge proof Ethereum scaling solution, has announced that its zkSync Era Mainnet Alpha is now available to all users. The project aims to accelerate the mass adoption of cryptocurrency for personal sovereignty, by providing a new solution to the current scaling issues in Ethereum through layer 2 projects. The zkEVM technology, a zero-proof Ethereum Virtual Machine, is the highlight of zkSync and is expected to speed up blockchain transactions and reduce costs.
Matter Labs, the developer behind zkSync, has opened up the Era to users, which has been branded as zkSync Era, with the aim of leading the race in Ethereum scaling platforms. The zkEVM is a type of ZK rollup, a blockchain scaling system based on cryptography, and is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine, which executes smart contracts. The EVM-compliant Era is now available to all users, making it easier for developers familiar with the ecosystem to design or restructure applications.
The CEO of Matter Labs, Alex Gluchowski, said that the timing of the release was coincidental and that it came just after the completion of a second public security audit. He added that the tests and audits for the product were comprehensive and cost $3.8 million, including seven independent security audits with leading auditor OpenZeppelin, and an open-ended bug bounty program with Immunefi. The code for zkSync Era, including its prover, is completely open source.
Polygon, another zkEVM solution, was announced in mid-February by Polygon, and its equivalent product, called “Mainnet Beta,” is set to be released on March 27th. Gluchowski also mentioned that certain measures, such as a delay period initially set to 24 hours for withdrawal transactions, are still in place. The plan is to adopt a similar approach to zkSync Lite, with a security council overseeing protocol upgrades. Gluchowski acknowledged that no guarantees could be made regarding the absence of issues, so users are encouraged to test the platform slowly.
The zkSync Era is expected to revolutionize Ethereum’s scaling issues, providing faster, cheaper transactions with increased security. Its availability to all users marks a significant milestone in the development of blockchain technology, with zkSync leading the way in the race for Ethereum scaling platforms.
